Based on Oliver Stone’s own experiences as an infantry soldier in Vietnam, Platoon is one of the most acclaimed and influential war films ever made. Rather than focusing on military strategy or heroism, the film immerses viewers in the daily reality of young soldiers struggling to survive the physical and psychological pressures of war.
The story follows Chris Taylor, a young American volunteer who arrives in Vietnam full of idealism but quickly finds himself caught between two very different sergeants and confronted with the brutal realities of combat. The film explores themes of morality, leadership, fear, and the lasting impact of violence.
Winner of four Academy Awards, including Best Picture and Best Director, Platoon remains a powerful and deeply human portrayal of war that continues to resonate decades after its release.

This screening is part of FilmHallen's *Eighties* retrospective, celebrating the iconic films, filmmakers, and movie culture that defined the decade.
