Persona
Celebrated actress Elisabet Vogler suddenly stops speaking during a performance and retreats into silence. Her young nurse, Alma, is assigned to care for her, and the two withdraw to an isolated house by the sea. As Alma fills the silence with increasingly intimate confessions, the boundary between patient and caregiver — and eventually between their identities — begins to dissolve.
One of Ingmar Bergman's most radical and influential films, Persona turns two faces, two women and a single relationship into a hypnotic exploration of identity, intimacy, performance and the masks we construct for ourselves. Liv Ullmann and Bibi Andersson give two of the defining performances of Bergman's cinema, photographed in extraordinary black and white by Sven Nykvist. The film has inspired an enormous body of critical interpretation and has even been called the “Mount Everest of film critique.”

The film is in Swedish with English subtitles.
