About “Synecdoche, New York”

Directed by: Charlie Kaufman

Starring: Philip Seymour Hoffman, Samantha Morton, Michelle Williams, Catherine Keener, Emily Watson, and Tom Noonan

Runtime: 2h 4m

Year: 2008

Charlie Kaufman’s Synecdoche, New York starts with a simple idea and transforms it into one of the most original films ever made. As theatre director Caden Cotard builds a massive replica of New York inside a warehouse, the line between art and life becomes increasingly blurred. The film turns everyday fears about aging, regret, relationships, and death into something funny, moving, and unexpectedly relatable. Over the years, it has grown from a cult favourite into a modern classic that continues to influence filmmakers and spark debate among movie lovers. Philip Seymour Hoffman gives an extraordinary performance at the centre of a story that somehow feels both deeply personal and universal. Whether you see it as a puzzle, a comedy, a tragedy, or all three at once, it offers the kind of rich and rewarding experience.

The film is in English without subtitles.
