Join the Amsterdam Film Group for a special film lecture by critic and programmer Hugo Emmerzael, exploring the mechanics of "puzzle films" and cinematic mysteries. The talk will examine how movies with fractured narratives and alternate realities, such as Memento, Inception, and Being John Malkovich, turn the viewing experience into an active process of questioning reality. Please note that this event is a lecture rather than a standard movie screening, so we strongly recommend watching Donnie Darko beforehand to fully engage with the discussion. Emmerzael brings extensive industry experience to the subject, having curated for the Netherlands Film Festival and served on juries at Cannes, Venice, and Locarno. The duration of the lecture will be 45 minutes.
